Apple & Date Strudels made with Brick Pastry

Apple & Date Strudels (with Brick Pastry)

  1. Pre-heat the oven to 200C/180F/Gas 4. Peel and finely chop your apple and put in a bowl. Add your finely chopped dates, cinnamon, sugar and lemon juice and mix it all up.
  2. Cut your Brick sheets in half. Take one half and place 2 tbsp of the apple mixture onto the sheet in the middle with the long edge at the top. Fold in the sides and roll up to make a parcel. Place on a baking tray, loose edges on the base.
  3. Repeat with the remaining pastry and apple mixture. Brush each parcel with butter all over. Bake in the oven for 20 minutes or until golden. Dust with icing sugar and serve with custard or ice cream.

  1. I also live in France, in Calvisson, between Nimes and Montpellier. A French friend mentioned brick pastry to me, so I bought some, but she always fries her pastry parcels in a shallow pan. I didn’t want to fry, so went on the web to look for other ideas. Thank you for your suggestions, I can’t wait to try them. I entertain French people often, I like to present them with we ideas based on their own recipes.

    1. Oh I am so pleased that I could help! Brick works just fine baked in the oven. It’s such great stuff. Don’t be afraid to be fairly forceful with it. It can take it! I hope your French friends approve. Thanks so much for stopping by.
